WHAT I KNOW ABOUT THE RIDDLER.
The
Riddler is a guy who's just way too smart for his own good. He
is a criminal genius who can come up with absolutely brilliant
crime schemes with little or no chance of capture but is compelled
to present riddles to Batman and the police and the public.

And it's not that he wants to
be caught. He dearly wants to get away with his crimes.
But he wants to get away by the skin of his teeth. He
wants the cops and Batman and everyone else to know just how
tremendous his intellect is. He wants to slip through the law's
grasp and leave everyone amazed. The Riddler craves notoriety.
Crime is far more than a way
of getting money without working for it to the Riddler. (and
God knows he works for it!) Crime is performance art to
him.
His puzzles are designed not
only to confound the authorities but also a way to mislead and
misdirect them. If he's designed them well they should also cause
as much havoc in Gotham as is possible. The more people inconvenienced
or harmed by the riddles the better.
The
more chaos the merrier. This is the equivalent of big boxoffice
for the Riddler.
He's the guy who always wants
to be right, always wants to know the secret that everyone
else is dying to find out.
All of these machinations and
fixations are a source of frustration to any hood unwise enough
to join one of the Riddler's capers.
And despite the fact that he's
a hopeless psycho, sociapath, meance to society and career criminal,
he does not deserve to be portrayed by Robin Williams.
