what's news?

January 5, 2000

A few surprises popped up before the end of the year.

Firstly, a follow-up project to THE CHALICE was approved for John VanFleet and I. It's called BATMAN: THE ANKH and, like our previous book, it will be fully painted and take place within current continuity. The original idea was John's and it's even more epic in scope than our last effort. I'm not sure when it will be out. I guess you should look for it sometime in 2001.

A fifth week stunt proposed by Scott Beatty and myself also got the big stamp of approval by the Big Brains at DC. It'll be appearing in August of this year and I'm not at liberty to reveal any of the subject matter. But it will create a whole raft of new characters for the DCU and be a company-wide event drawing in all of the major characters. This is the first one of these I've ever done and I'm a bit awed. But it's a strong high concept idea and I'm sure we'll pull it off in style.

A last minute addition to my schedule is this summer's Flash Annual. The original writer backed out and it got dropped on me. The art is by Quique Alcatena my Argentine amigo so I jumped at it. Quique and I will be creating a whole slew of new characters for this one and it will feature his amazing visuals. I've already completed the first part of the annual and am sailing into the second part now.

This week also marks the debut of Butch Guice on Birds of Prey. I've already gotten my comps and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed. The issue looks gorgeous and contains more than a few surprises.

That's it for now except to thank you all for your well wishes over Christmas and New Year. They are all appreciated.

2000 already looks to be a very busy year for me and you're all welcome to come along!
